In 2007 Phipps became the sixth public garden in the U.S. to host a Dale Chihuly glass exhibit. Chihuly at Phipps: Gardens and Glass opened in May and proved to be the most successful exhibit in the organization's history, drawing in record numbers of guests to view the spectacle. The legacy of Chihuly at Phipps led to the subsequent acquisition of numerous Chihuly installations for permanent display and paved the way for further crowd-pleasing collaborations with glass artists, including Life in the Gardens: Fräbel Glass at Phipps in 2009 and SUPER.
