New Displays Highlight Phipps' Astounding Array of Orchid Varieties and Classically Trained Bonsai

Pittsburgh, PA – Starting Sat., Jan. 11, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens provides guests with a unforgettable journey in Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show: A Moment of Beauty. All-new engaging displays create a warm oasis featuring a vast variety of orchids and classically trained bonsai highlighting ephemeral and entrancing nature. Join us for a respite from the cold and find new ways to appreciate these fascinating specimens as they take center stage.

Exhibit Features:

• Marvel at beautiful butterfly sculptures amid vibrant yellow, orange and pink orchids in Palm Court
• Appreciate the ephemeral bloom cycles of flowers in the Sunken Garden as outstanding orchids bloom hot pink, light pink and maroon
• Watch a dazzling water sequence in the Victoria Room pond as yellow orchids shine bright amongst purple, white and blue flora
• Journey through our curated collection of bonsai in the Serpentine Room inspired by Japanese culture
• See a captivating display of Kokedama —   the Japanese art of growing plants in a moss-covered ball — featuring orchids, ferns and bonsai
• And much more! 

Guests can also enjoy the displays in our Garden Railroad: Movie Magic. This whimsical exhibit allows guests to explore a bustling movie lot home to genres like fantasy, western, science fiction, horror and action with whimsical and interactive aspects! With an abundance of fascinating features surrounded by a beautiful plant palette, our Garden Railroad is sure to bring Hollywood magic to the glasshouse.

Plus, illuminate your visit by stopping by our Winter Light Garden for Festive Nights of Winter Lights. To celebrate the success of Phipps Holiday Magic, we’re letting our glowing outdoor gardens shine for a few more nights of festive wonder. On select Friday and Saturday evenings in January, guests can enjoy a serene stroll along luminous orbs, trees, towers and fountains of light in our Outdoor and Children’s Discovery Gardens. 

Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show: A Moment of Beauty and Garden Railroad: Movie Magic run Jan. 11 – March 9, and Festive Nights of Winter Lights runs Fridays and Saturdays from 5 – 10 p.m. from Jan. 10 – 31. Member and nonmember tickets must be reserved in advance.
