Let’s Move Pittsburgh Announces 2019 Champion Schools Award Winners
40 area schools and childcare centers receive recognition and funding for championing youth wellness programs.

Pittsburgh, PA — To inspire and reward high-impact healthy initiatives in area schools and childcare centers, Let’s Move Pittsburgh — a collaborative program of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens dedicated to advancing healthy lifestyles in the Pittsburgh community — announces 2019 Champion Schools Award winners.  Now in its sixth year, these honorary awards provide special recognition and mini-grants to 40 eligible school and childcare center programs that are leading children to a healthier future.

2019 winners include Young Scholars of Western PA Charter School which will use their Champion Schools award for a multi-dimensional garden space. Educators will teach students how to build, cultivate and sustain the new space using 95% recycled materials. Students will benefit from the edible garden beds, bee and butterfly garden, medicinal herb garden and native plant garden planned at the school.

In total, over 8,500 children will benefit from Let’s Move Pittsburgh’s 2019 Champion Schools Awards which will fund healthy lifestyle initiatives including community gardens, kids’ fitness programs and equipment, healthy cooking programs, composting stations and more.
