In the early years, most of Phipps' flowers were displayed on waist-height benches in pots like the one shown in this photo from 1923. This did not change until 1935, when Ralph Griswold, the head of Phipps' horticulture department at the time, transformed the exhibitions to showcase garden designs more akin to those visitors experience today.
