The Art of Trudy Rehbock
Phipps Conservatory's Botanical Art and Illustration Program Remembers Trudy Rehbock
In memoriam, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is honored to feature an online exhibition of the work of Trudy Rehbock. Trudy first became a member of Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in 2001. She started taking botanical art classes in 2005 and participated in the Flora Project for ten years, from 2010 – 2020. Trudy was a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and the local chapter, Allegheny Highlands Botanical Art Society, for twelve years. She earned the Phipps Botanical Art and Illustration Basic Certificate in November 2018. Primarily known for her expressive colored-pencil work, Trudy liked to make yearly spring visits to Kaual, Hawaii where she took classes from Wendy Hollender, a well-known botanical artist and author of several books on colored pencil technique. The colored pencil pieces in this online exhibit are Trudy’s works from the Flora Project, classes and independent projects, as well as her creative pieces from Hawaii. Phipps will miss Trudy’s easygoing and joyful spirit as a fellow student and member of Pittsburgh’s botanical art community.
