There's always something new to see and do at Phipps! This weekly blog post provides a run-down of the latest happenings so you can plan your visit. Events listed below require no advance registration unless noted otherwise. 

Open Daily: 

  • COMING SOON: Summer Flower Show: Under the Sea
    Starting Sat., May 4, dive into the magical underworld of the ocean with whimsical displays of an array of sea creatures, unique plant foliage and fantastic flora.
  • COMING SOON: Butterfly Forest
    Starting Sat., May 4, watch colorful butterflies break free of their chrysalises to soar and glide among beautiful Phipps blooms. One may even land on you!
  • COMING SOON: May Market
    Join us May 10 –11 to celebrate spring at our 88th annual May Market, a bustling marketplace where Phipps horticulturists, local nurseries, farms and other vendors come together for a market of ultra-green proportions. May Market is free and open to the public, making for the perfect Mother’s Day weekend outing!
  • Tropical Forest Hawai‘i: Aloha ‘Aina
    Tropical Forest Hawai‘i: Aloha ‘Aina invites guests to take an exciting, immersive journey through the rich history, nature and culture of the Hawaiian archipelago. 
  • Planets Earth Virtual Exhibit
    A dynamic exhibit at the Center for Sustainable Landscapes (and now online) addresses the pressing environmental issues of our time and proposes a new way of thinking about how to solve them.

Tues., April 30:

  • Personal Flowers to Wear: Corsage | 6:30 – 8 p.m.
    Just in time for prom and wedding season, this hands-on workshop will teach you how to construct wrist corsages that will be durable enough to withstand all the hugging, dancing and celebrating but are also still stylish and comfortable.

Wed., May 1: 

  • In-Person Story Time | 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
    Kids will love visiting Phipps to listen to our storyteller weave tales about gardens, fruits, vegetables, animals and other fun topics. Attend weekly sessions with a special child in your life.
  • Botanical Tree of Life | 6 – 9 p.m.
    Illustrate a Botanical Tree of life in your chosen media of watercolor, gouache, pen and ink, graphite or colored pencil utilizing a variety of nature inspired elements using your chosen source material. 
  • Landscape Revitalization | 7 – 9 p.m.
    Frequently, an aging, established landscape does not need to be entirely revamped, but reimagined and reworked in order to revitalize it. Students in this class will learn techniques for improving upon and enhancing an existing landscape — giving it a new look by adding fresh plants and removing those that are no longer thriving, engaging in selective pruning and incorporating other garden elements, while still utilizing existing plants

Sat., May 4:

  • Spring Botanical Boutique and Native Plant Sale | 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
    Phipps Garden Center in Mellon Park transforms into a spring market full of plants for your home and garden as well as a variety of unique botanical gifts including; native plants, houseplants, artwork and many more natural treasures!
