There's always something new to see and do at Phipps! This weekly blog post provides a run-down of the latest happenings so you can plan your visit. Events listed below require no advance registration unless noted otherwise. 

Open Daily: 

  • Spring Flower Show: Five Senses of Splendor
    Explore our Spring Flower Show: Five Senses of Splendor that promises even more vibrance than ever! With features including a giant perfume bottle, harmonious chime canopies, a cascading fountain and more all surrounded by blooms in a rainbow of shades, your senses are sure to be delighted! 
  • Ikebana International Exhibit
    The Welcome Center Gallery is filled with Ikebana displays providing insight to this Japanese art of floral arrangement. View these gorgeous floral displays for yourself, courtesy of the Ikebana International Pittsburgh Chapter!   
  • Tropical Forest Hawai‘i: Aloha ‘Aina
    Tropical Forest Hawai‘i: Aloha ‘Aina invites guests to take an exciting, immersive journey through the rich history, nature and culture of the Hawaiian archipelago. 
  • Planets Earth Virtual Exhibit
    A dynamic exhibit at the Center for Sustainable Landscapes (and now online) addresses the pressing environmental issues of our time and proposes a new way of thinking about how to solve them.

 

Tues., April 11:

  • Backyard Gardening Series: Build and Maintain a Raised Bed | 7 – 8:30 p.m.
    In this virtual gardening series, learn all the basics for starting your backyard garden, from planting seeds to harvesting fruit and everything in between.  Explore the range of materials you can use to build raised beds and the best practices for filling and maintaining them. This presentation will also briefly cover trellising, season extension, and fencing options. 

Wed., April 12: 

  • In-Person Story Time | 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
    Kids will love visiting Phipps to listen to our storyteller weave tales about gardens, fruits, vegetables, animals and other fun topics. Attend weekly sessions with a special child in your life!.

Thurs., April 13:

  • Used Bulb Sale | 3 – 6 p.m.
    Attend one or more of our annual Used Bulb Sales for a chance to pick up used Phipps bulbs — including hyacinths, daffodils and lilies — for your own garden!
  • Farm-to-Table Dinner with Jamison Lamb Farm | 6 – 8 p.m.
    Jamison Lamb Farm, run by John and Sukey Jamison, produces some 3,000 lambs annually, destined for great cooks at home and the finest chefs in America. Join John and Sukey as they share their farm stories while preparing a meal of lamb shanks and seasonal vegetables.

Fri., April 14: 

  • Dinner at the Chef's Table: Dinner with Chef Chris Galarza | 6 – 8 p.m.
    Join us for dinner at the chefs’ table! Phipps will feature chefs and food experts from Pittsburgh and beyond in this one-of-a-kind dining experience. Chef Chris is also an entrepreneur, author, speaker, podcaster, and consultant educating and popularizing sustainable and efficient electric kitchens.
