Empowering Students Through Education, Engagement and Motion
Pittsburgh Public Schools (Pittsburgh Banksville K–5, Pittsburgh Brookline Elementary and Pittsburgh Mifflin Pre-K to Eighth) chose to partner with ESTEEM Group, Inc. for their Champion Schools Grant. The ESTEEM program spans from PreK through college, encompassing a diverse curriculum that meets students where they are and challenges them to grow and develop social emotional learning skills important to thrive in life.
All students received programming twice a week for eight weeks, in which time they were taken through Yoga, Dance, Team Building and Fitness activities.
Pittsburgh Brookline and Mifflin students focused on self-awareness, decision making, motivation, teamwork and friendship. They worked through learning more about themselves and how their words and actions affect others. Students were able to use yoga to calm themselves, dance to push themselves out of their comfort zones, team building to work with others in a positive way and fitness to push themselves further than they would have thought they could go.
Pittsburgh Banksville students were able to perform a variety of Latin and Ballroom dances at the end of their residency as they were focused on teamwork, leadership, community and respect. All of these students walked away with greater self-confidence and the knowledge that they are in charge of their own development by the choices they make and the community they immerse themselves in.
