There's always something new to see and do at Phipps! This weekly blog post provides a run-down of the latest happenings so you can plan your visit. Events listed below require no advance registration unless noted otherwise. 

Open Daily: 

  • Orchid and Tropical Bonsai: An Ocean of Color 
    Immerse yourself in stunning displays that burst with color and fragrance as you admire orchids in a vast array of shapes, sizes and colors, as well as the exquisitely trained specimens in our tropical bonsai collection.
  • Ikebana International Exhibit
    Explore these delicate arrangements as they adorn our gorgeous Welcome Center with beauty, grace and tranquility.
  • Planets Earth Virtual Exhibit
    A dynamic exhibit at the Center for Sustainable Landscapes (and now online) addresses the pressing environmental issues of our time and proposes a new way of thinking about how to solve them.
  • Festive Nights of Winter Lights 
    Only on Friday and Saturday evenings on from 5 – 10 p.m., drop in for a serene stroll among the luminous orbs, trees, towers and fountains of light in our Outdoor and Children’s Discovery Gardens.
  • Garden Railroad: Bridges and Tunnels
    Join us on a locomotive journey through a delightful miniature display of the bridges, tunnels and inclines of western Pennsylvania and beyond at this all-new Garden Railroad exhibit!

Wed., Jan. 19

  • Make Your Own Silk Flower Arrangement | 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. 
    Silk flower arrangements can bring long lasting beauty in to your home. Students will learn about silk selection, design inspiration and finally how to assemble a striking arrangement. 

Fri., Jan. 21:

  • Virtual Environmental Film Series | 7 p.m. 
    Phipps' Environmental Film Series is an exciting monthly event inviting community members to come together to view environmental films and documentaries.

Sat., Jan. 22:

  • Winter Tree Identification | 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. 
    Enjoy a frosty forest walk and learn how to identify trees in Schenley Park by their buds and bark! 

Sun., Jan. 23:

  • Sensory Friendly Hour | 8:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. (arrival options available)
    Individuals with sensory concerns and their families are welcome to join our team for a self-guided tour of the conservatory, including engaging sensory-friendly Discovery Station activities along the way.
  • Botanical Ballet Virtual Dance Class: Peter Pan | Noon – 1 p.m. 
    Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Let’s Move Pittsburgh invite children ages 3 – 7 and their favorite grownup dance partners to get active together in a fun virtual ballet class through the classic tale of Peter Pan.
