In October 2011, Phipps hosted the American Alliance of Museums symposium "Feeding the Spirit: Museums, Food and Community" and founded Let's Move Pittsburgh, a collaborative effort of organizations in Southwestern Pennsylvania committed to addressing childhood obesity in our region. Modeled after First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! national campaign, Let's Move Pittsburgh's scope has expanded in subsequent years to include multimedia resources, family fitness events, symposia and grant funding for health programs at area schools, among other efforts. Simultaneously, Phipps' growing commitment to healthy living finds additional outlets in its award-winning sustainable café, on-site Play Farmers' Market and Rooftop Edible Garden, and outreach programs like Homegrown, which constructs raised-bed vegetable gardens in underserved neighborhoods.
