Weddings Under Glass: Danielle and Trent

Weddings Under Glass is a monthly blog series where we highlight the stories of couples who chose to begin their happily ever after in the lush backdrop of Phipps, named one of the best outdoor garden wedding venues by Elle and Harper’s Bazaar.

Danielle and Trent both went to the University of Michigan for their undergraduate studies, where they eventually met. They should have crossed paths multiple times, but they only met when a mutual friend got involved. Danielle was studying athletic training, and the friend called Danielle for help when Trent suddenly injured his back. As Trent’s back healed with help from Danielle, their quickly developed friendship continued to grow.

Trent decided to propose to Danielle over the 4th of July weekend at his family’s lakeside cottage. He made sure that they were packed and prepared so that they would arrive at the cottage before the rest of his family. As they arrived at the cottage, Trent was anxious to go down to the lake to see if the cover was off of the family boat. Danielle was gazing out over the water when she realized Trent was very quiet. She turned around to see if he had left, but he was there waiting patiently on one knee.

The couple both love water and the outdoors, so they wanted “water and woods” to be their theme. “Phipps is lush with plant life and features like waterfalls and fish. We wanted the feel of an outdoor wedding without additional travel for our families and risk of inclement weather,” Danielle says. “Phipps was utterly perfect!”

After a heartfelt ceremony at North Way Christian Community’s Oakland Campus, Danielle and Trent had their reception in the Special Events Hall and Tropical Forest. Details were inspired from their “water and woods theme”, including a color palette of navy, gray, berry and green. A very unique feature to their reception was creative uplighting by DJ Jeremy Ganss that painted the space with light in shades of purples and greens. “The uplighting highlighted the plants and created an amazing atmosphere,” Danielle says.

Danielle and Trent really enjoyed getting married in a place that they already loved. “I love Phipps!” Danielle says. “Sharing the beautiful atmosphere with all of our closest friends and family on our wedding day was amazing! It was like having a tropical destination wedding, right here in Pittsburgh.”

After an amazing, tropical wedding celebration, the couple honeymooned in tropical Aruba. Danielle and Trent now live and work in Pittsburgh and enjoy life with their dog, Zorro. They also enjoy visiting Phipps, trying new restaurants for date nights and spending time in the region’s beautiful parks.
