Weddings Under Glass: Dana and Greg

By Heather Poling

Weddings Under Glass is a monthly blog series where we highlight the stories of couples who chose to begin their happily ever after in the lush backdrop of Phipps, named one of the best outdoor garden wedding venues by Elle and Harper’s Bazaar.

Dana and Greg met in early spring of 2020 while they were in graduate school through the dating app Hinge. Both were scheduled to leave Pittsburgh for summer internships when Covid lockdown prevented them from traveling. They used their time wisely and got to know each other growing closer during lockdown!

They found they both had a love of reading, realizing they shared a fondness for Greg’s favorite series of books The Wheel of Time. They were excited when Amazon released a television series based on the books and looked forward to sharing the streaming experience. The night of the finale they settled in with a steak dinner but found the episode to be lackluster. However, Greg surprised Dana with a proposal right after the episode ended, making it a memorable night after all!

As lovers of plants and nature, Phipps was one of the couples frequent date spots, so frequent that they even bought a membership because they visited so often. Their memories along with endless beautiful blooms made the Conservatory their best choice for a wedding location!

Dana and Greg were married in the Outdoor Garden during summertime. They created a romantic garden vibe incorporating blues and whites as colors designed to complement the natural greenery in the garden. They added floating candles to enhance to the romantic feel of the evening.

Greg’s father created the couple’s favorite and most unique feature of their wedding; table markers that were made from “difficulty grades” for boulder climbing. The guests enjoyed taking them home as distinctive souvenirs to commemorate the night. Everyone loved how stunning the venue was and truly appreciated all the Conservatory had to offer!

The couple has a honeymoon planned this winter to visit Saint Lucia in the Caribbean. In the meantime, they have settled into married life and are enjoying all the fun challenges of merging their lives!
