Featured Farmer: Mushrooms for Life

By Allison Russell

Despite its name and appearance, the eastern cauliflower is not a type of cauliflower. It isn’t even a type of vegetable. This is cream-colored, brain-like species is actually a tender, edible mushroom that tastes delicious when stir fried with vegetables in butter, garlic and balsamic vinegar, and it is one of many local mushroom species offered by Mushrooms for Life. For a selection of mushrooms including the eastern cauliflower, shitake, blue oysters, chicken of the woods, butter boletes and Porcini Northeast Boletus, stop by Farmers at Phipps this Wednesday from 2:30 – 6:30 p.m. Mushrooms for Life has been providing tasty and nutritious mushrooms to the Pittsburgh area since 2000.
