Chihuly at Phipps: Gardens and Glass
May 10, 2007 – Feb. 24, 2008
With the blockbuster collaboration of Dale Chihuly and Phipps, a true phenomenon swept Pittsburgh, the tri-state area and beyond. The world-famous artist’s blown glass sculptures — from undulating “fiori” to “Niijima float” orbs and every imaginable shape in between — filled 12 display rooms, the Welcome Center and the Outdoor and Japanese Courtyard Gardens with their otherworldly splendor. This spectacular exhibit attracted more than 400,000 visitors, including guests from every state and 52 foreign countries, and after it closed in February 2008, a number of pieces were kept for permanent display.
