Tropical Forest Conservatory and Special Events Hall

Capacity: 175 Seated, 250 Standing

The Tropical Forest Conservatory, a 12,000 square foot complex of paths, tree-top lookout, waterfalls and fish pond, is unrivaled as a special event venue in Pittsburgh.

Adjacent to the Tropical Forest is our Special Events Hall that is dedicated to hosting private events. This space features two floor-to-ceiling glass walls that offer breath-taking views of the lush Tropical Forest and the vistas of Oakland landmarks. These two spaces combined are ideal for groups of up to 175 people who wish to be seated in the Special Events Hall and enjoy cocktails in the Tropical Forest and outdoor sun terrace. These two spaces can accommodate 250 people standing.

The Outdoor Garden

Capacity: 75 Seated, 180 Seated w/tents

The Outdoor Garden, one large garden made up of many smaller gardens, provides approximately one acre of outdoor tranquility. The Outdoor Garden includes a perennial garden, a collection of dwarf conifers, a border of pink and white flowering plants, annuals, semi-shade plants, medicinal plants, and an herb garden. Seasonal tents are provided by Phipps to accommodate 75 seated guests. Additional tents can be rented to accommodate up to 180 seated guests.

Broderie

Capacity: 50 Seated

The Parterre de Broderie garden, a smaller scale of the gardens of the chateaux, castles, and palaces of French nobility in the time of Louis XIV, is home to an Italian wellhead and bronze Edmund Ameteis maiden statues. This is a lovely location for weddings attended by fewer than 50 guests.

Palm Court and South Conservatory

Capacity: 150 Standing

The Palm Court, a spacious and tropical, yet peaceful, interior room of the glasshouse, is the focal point of the Conservatory. It is home to palms that stand gracefully at heights of up to 50 feet, as well as statues, park benches, and a relaxing central courtyard. The South Conservatory, used for seasonal flower shows, is one of the Conservatory's main display areas. When combined with the Palm Court, the South Conservatory is an excellent room for cocktail receptions. These two spaces combined are commonly used for events of fewer than 150 people (standing).

Entire Facility

The entire Phipps facility is available for your special occasion. Invite guests to take their champagne and conversation through all fourteen glass rooms as they enjoy an unforgettable event at Phipps.

Botany Hall

Botany Hall is a great location for meetings and presentations. The 100-seat Joan Kilner Hunt Auditorium, equipped with the latest audio visual equipment, is perfect for business retreats, lectures, presentations and seminars. Botany Hall also houses a classroom that can be used for workshops, demonstrations, or for small receptions.

Phipps Garden Center

The Garden Center, a charming Carriage House on the former Mellon Estate, is a fantastic location for a more casual meal or reception. With two large rooms, a quaint outdoor terrace, and a stage, the Garden Center serves as an excellent gathering place for your organization's year-end banquet, your office holiday party, or any celebration.
